Chernobyl Exclusion ZoneDespite these incredible cleanup efforts, there is still a 30km exclusion zone around the Chernobyl plant. You need government permission to enter through one of many checkpoints surrounding the area. The paved roads do not absorb radiation so the roads are somewhat safe to walk on. Several steps off of the paved roads and the radiation doubles and triples. Some closed areas like homes with open windows facing the reactor are extremely dangerous.
